STANFORD— The first annual Charles M. Russell Stampede, held in Stanford on Sunday, July 26, 1964, was an event described by many as "the best ever."
The weather cooperated in every way, being sunny but not too hot, with just a hint of a cool breeze blowing through the stands and carrying the little dust in the arena away from spectators.
