In this fast-paced competition, women's breakaway roping mirrors men's tie-down roping, but with a powerful twist: the cowgirls aren’t required to dismount and tie the calf. Instead, with a flick of the wrist, they release a flag tied to the end of their rope, sending it flying with razor-sharp accuracy. A nylon string connects the rope to the saddle horn, and once the rope makes contact with the calf, the flag breaks free, signaling a successful catch.
