Six Seconds and a Sheep!

​A rider steps into the chute and prepares for a ride that will last only 6 seconds. It’s a familiar scene in rodeo, but in this case the rider is a child between the ages of 5 and 8 and the bronco is a sheep.

The CMR Stampede Mutton Bustin’ features children between the ages 5 and 8 and under 70 pounds riding sheep out of a chute and into the arena. Anything goes, and usually does, as contestants hold on as long as they can!
Online registrations are only being accepted for this event.
​Registrations are open July 7 through July 8, 2025 - First come, First Served.

Information

  • Mutton Bustin' Rodeo Date: July 20, 2025.
  • Entry Dates: July 7 - July 8 
  • Sign up will be online only and is limited to 15 participants.  First come, first served. We will have 5 alternates listed to participate in case of a no show or no run.
  • One Entry per child. No entry fee.
  • Contestant Entrants will be confirmed and posted by name on the website.
  • Helmets, vests and sheep will be provided.
  • Contestants are required to wear a long-sleeve shirt, long pants, boots or closed toed shoes.
  • A parent will be required to chaperone their child during the competition.
  • Parent's/Guardian's will be required to sign the Mutton Busting Contestant Release Form prior to their child participating in the event.

​General Rules

  • Child must be between the ages of 5 and 8 and weigh less than seventy (70) lbs.
  • Rider takes a wool hold and rides for six (6) seconds.  Rodeo Clown will judge the contestants.
  • Child may use one or two hands, with one-hand rides receiving more points. Child must ride for six (6) seconds to score and receive points. Sheep shall be chute run.
  • Helmets and vests, provided by North 40 Outfitters  and the CMR Stampede, are required to participate.
  • No spurs allowed.
  • Contestants will only be given 3 chances to get on the sheep. Following the last refusal, we will move to the next contestant.
  • Winner will receive a Stampede Belt Buckle - good luck to all!
